We were invited to screen our films in the Screening Suite in front of our peers. After the screening, we discussed our critiques, likes, dislikes, and suggestions for improvement with each other. I really enjoyed this process and found it extremely gratifying to encourage my peers. It was a very helpful exercise, and it helped me realize the benefit of sharing my work with other artists for feedback.
What I took from our discussion on my piece at this point was that the film sparked a renewed interest in the wealth of stories everyone possesses, resembling an introduction to what feels like a series, especially with its 'found footage' vibe. The storytelling method strongly resonates with the human experience, emphasizing the importance of narration. However, there's a feeling of wanting more from the stories told, indicating the potential for improved equilibrium in focusing on interpreting and bringing these traditional narratives into the modern age. There is a commendable balance between verbal narration and visual imagery, which enhances the overall storytelling experience. The exploration involves a critical analysis of which stories persist or fade and how we can incorporate contemporary technologies to ensure these narratives continue to thrive. The suggestion to stage performances at historical sites offers an innovative approach to repurpose and enrich the narratives, crafting a more compelling and engaging storyline.
Because I used larger file formats which meant I needed a lot of processing power, the film didn't render properly and there were places where it 'glitched out'. Surprisingly, this was met with positive feedback from my peers, who suggested it incorporates an element of my own art style and adds excitement, which I now hope to further enhance. IInIn the future, I will shoot my film in smaller-sized files or convert them before editing my videos.
While I was pleased with my short film, I recognize that there is room for improvement. I intend to delve further into light painting techniques and strive to achieve a better balance between storytelling and providing information.
