3 Digital Artefacts

Throughout this module, I have learned a variety of new techniques and refined many others. I have discovered a passion for filmmaking and illustration, while delving into various facets of my artistic interests. "Dark Shadows" investigated the oppressive, dystopian elements of our capitalist society to which I am drawn, providing pathways for the audience to question the technologically advanced world we inhabit. This complements the sculptural piece for my Contemporary Arts module.

In my Dartmoor Narrative Film, I explored the history of my local area, sharing stories and tales that form a vital part of the traditional human experience. By preserving folklore, I actively resist the relentless march of technology, yet paradoxically, I use these same technologies to add my own spectrum of light and colour. In retelling these myths and legends, I contribute to keeping the tradition of storytelling alive for future generations. I have been encouraged to create a series of short films that delve deeper into each tale, which I aspire to undertake in the future.

The Stretchy Banana has allowed me to probe a more playful side to my work. I am invariably attracted to the brightness of pop art and the deeper meanings behind the banana within the art world and embrace the notion that chaos and change are fundamental to life. I often challenge the perspectives we hold of ourselves and our attempts to conform to the surrounding world while consistently urging my audience to scrutinise and reassess their own stories and prejudices. My proficiency in stop-motion animation has made creating a film in this medium a gratifying experience I am looking forward to refining in the future.

Going forward, I hope to allocate more time to my projects, aiming to fulfil the breadth of my creativity rather than be limited by its vastness. I always struggle to refine my own clear boundaries when designing my own project briefs. This causes me to overthink, and create too many avenues for exploration. I have learnt to simplify my projects as I go, to shave off any unneccessary lines of enquiry. Because of this broad spectrum of ideas I found I struggled to meet my deadlines, and I know in the future I will need to be more prepared from the beginning, instead of floating around between concepts. This is a skill I will learn as I develop my planning and professional practice.
